The story of our home

The Borehole

For those of you who haven’t been to Zimbabwe, life in the blue collar suburbs of the capital city is more like being on a farm than anything else.

You need:

  1. a 4×4 to get to and from your house given the state of the roads
  2. the ability to survive without electricity (given the frequency and length of the power cuts; yesterday was a 17 hour cut!)
  3. a compound for your staff to live on your property
  4. most importantly of all… you need to source your own water!

Yes, for 15 years, our water supply authority have been too busy buying themselves Range Rovers to be able to supply the highest residential rate payers in the country, with water.

So having saved up for almost a year to be able to drill to the sited depth of 80m into the earth in search of the agua, we organized a driller and Tandamanzi arrived at 6am today. After a full day of drilling and an extra 10m on the drilling depth, the result was a modest 750L per hour (which is just over half of what a garden spray will require) We’re extremely grateful to have struck water at all! Thank you to friends and family for your prayers… and thank you God.

Some pretty cool pictures 🙂 Enjoy…
