The story of our home

The Pantry Conversion

This project was (essentially) turning what was the passage from the kitchen to the bedrooms, into a functional pantry. There was an intermediary step taken when we first arrived two years ago to block off the passage way (which used to go straight through the back of this room) which was a good temporary move. Now we just needed to turn it into something beautiful (on a budget of course!)

Cupboards gutted and new electrical distribution board fitted with temporary wiring and generator change over switch (the huge square on the right is the old one!)

Floor preparation done (Floorcrete) and cutting of floor for insertion of decorative tiles

Homemade shelf brackets having had the first coat of primer

Ceiling complete, electricals complete, painting complete – putting up the homemade shelves (into some seriously powdery walls!) Quite a challenge, ended up using a 10mm masonary drill bit with no hammer-action for a 12mm expansion bolt.

Aaaaand finished 🙂 Not very flattering angles of the pantry, but again, you get the idea.

Remember the old electrical box? Big improvement… And this includes inverter for lights and change-over switch for generator
